How inclusion shapes our business and the service we deliver

Inclusion at SCC is a commercial and cultural strength. We believe genuinely inclusive teams produce sharper thinking, better decisions and more resilient delivery. That conviction shapes how we recruit, develop, retain and support our 7,300+ colleagues, and it has direct implications for the service our customers experience.

Our customers benefit from a workforce that reflects the communities it serves, bringing richer perspectives to every engagement. The external accreditations we hold, including Disability Confident Level 2, Race at Work Charter signatory status, Armed Forces Covenant Silver and Neurodiversity in Business membership, all feed directly into your own supplier diligence.

We built SCC on family values. Those values shape an environment where people contribute as themselves. Our Diversity and Inclusion working group is open to every colleague across the business, and each of our seven colleague networks is sponsored by a member of the UK Leadership Team. That sponsorship sits inside our People Promise, which commits to personal and professional growth, a collaborative culture and meaningful work and contribution.

How our working group drives the inclusion agenda forward

The working group drives our inclusion agenda forward across the business. Six aims shape how it operates.

  1. Supporting our inclusive culture.
  2. Giving every colleague a voice.
  3. Taking action on the issues our people raise.
  4. Recognising and championing our people.
  5. Encouraging talent into the business.
  6. Raising awareness of the issues that matter most to colleagues.

Leadership sponsorship is the commitment line above those aims. Each of our colleague networks has a named UK Leadership Team sponsor, giving the networks direct access to the decisions that shape how the business invests in its people.

We are proud to be represented by people from diverse backgrounds with varied skill sets, experiences and personalities. We are committed to increasing diversity and ensuring equal opportunities exist for all. We recognise that diversity brings a wealth of knowledge and skills that contribute to our continued success.

The commitments and accreditations behind our inclusion work

Our inclusion work is measured and externally validated. We hold Disability Confident Level 2 certification under the government scheme and are members of Neurodiversity in Business.

We provide every colleague with access to an Employee Assistance Programme for free, independent, confidential advice. We launched Balance, our benefits package, to improve access to wellbeing support across the business.

We have signed the Menopause Pledge to take positive action for colleagues going through the menopause. We introduced Mindful Return, a free course that supports colleagues through pregnancy, maternity leave and the return to work.

We have trained Mental Health Champions across the UK business. Each has completed a two-day course so they are equipped to support colleagues who need it.

Each accreditation and signed commitment is chosen to give both colleagues and customers a verifiable way of assessing our inclusion work.

Our colleague networks

The colleague networks behind our inclusion work: each network has a defined remit and visible outputs.

SCC Access Network

The Access Network champions ability across the business, with particular focus on supporting neurodiversity and disability. We are members of Neurodiversity in Business and hold Disability Confident Level 2 certification under the government scheme.

In practice, that shapes how we recruit and how we support colleagues once they are with us. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and look for the individual most suited to the role, and we raise awareness, educate colleagues and support people living with neurodiversity and disability across the business.

SCC Network of Women

The Network of Women exists to give women at SCC and their allies a voice to share ideas, opportunities and experiences. It explores how we can encourage more women to join the business and supports colleagues to reach their full potential.

We have signed the Menopause Pledge. We talk openly about the menopause, take positive action and actively inform and support employees affected.

SCC Rainbow Network

The Rainbow Network supports LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies across the business. Its initiatives include the option to add pronouns to email signatures, partnerships with external organisations to share practice and ongoing work to improve the day-to-day support colleagues receive.

The network won a Founders Award in recognition of how it demonstrates our values.

SCC REACH Network

REACH, our Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage Network, celebrates the diversity of our colleagues, raises awareness and implements positive change across the business. It provides a space for people to connect, to learn about representation across SCC and to surface the contributions colleagues make at every level.

Like the Rainbow Network, REACH won a Founders Award.

Veteran Reservist Alliance

The Veteran Reservist Alliance is open to every colleague but serves veterans and reservists particularly. It provides a space to connect with people who share the experience, to contribute to outreach and mentoring and to be part of a supportive community.

SCC holds the Armed Forces Covenant Employee Recognition Scheme at Silver level.

Supporting our Armed Forces SCC and the Armed Forces Covenant

SCC is a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, a scheme British businesses can join to demonstrate their commitment to military veterans and reservists in UK employment.

The Covenant ensures that those who have served, and their families, are treated fairly and are supported in the workplace. It recognises the sacrifices made by servicemen and women, and provides opportunities and support as they transition into civilian life.

We hold the Covenant’s Employee Recognition Scheme at Silver level. Silver level status reflects specific commitments we have made and is reviewed against evidence of delivery.

SCC Wellbeing Network

The Wellbeing Network supports the mental and physical health of colleagues across the business. A national team of Mental Health Champions, each trained through a two-day course, provides support to colleagues who need it.

Our Birmingham headquarters has an on-site gym offering a personal trainer and group exercise classes. Colleagues in regional offices access discounted gym memberships through Balance, our benefits package.

SCC Young Professionals Network

The Young Professionals Network is for apprentices, graduates and colleagues in the early stages of their careers. It supports, connects and helps people build the foundations of their working lives at SCC.

The network has run campaigns, webinars and surveys to shape the support offer, and it continues to grow as more young colleagues join the business.
